Gloucester Prison Armstrong Hanging
Perimetry Gate lodge built in 1829, prior the main lodge extensions. A crowd gathered there early on the morning of 31st May 1922 to await posting of a notice declaring that Armstrong was dead. They had to wait a while as, following standard practice of the day, Armstrong’s body was left suspended for an hour after the execution before it was taken down.
