The First Shell Exhibition

The Rotherwas ROF – Front Line Duty Project is a two-year Heritage Lottery-funded project marking the contribution of the workers, most of whom were women. The project team are trying to gather all the names of the workers there over the two World Wars. ‘The First Shell’ Exhibition is on at Herefordshire Archive and Records Centre (HARC) in Fir Tree Lane, Rotherwas- they are asking for people to come and visit it and to bring in the names, stories, letters and photos of people they know of who worked at the munitions factory at Rotherwas. They are also running a commemorative bunting strand to the project. The template for this is available on their Facebook page: www.facebook.com/rotherwasrofproject/ . The opening hours of HARC (to include the Search Room) are Tuesday to Friday 9.15 to 4.45 and every 2nd Saturday of the month (the next second Saturday is 10th December). HARC will be closed from 22 December and will reopen on 3 January. There is full disabled access to the building and parking outside.

It is an evolving project, so as new things come in, the displays will be added to, so you might need a return visit to see progress. Part of the project is a number of community events and these will be advertised on the Facebook page and also on the Herefordshire Council archive page once the website has been revamped: www.herefordshire.gov.uk/archives .
